- The Sonoma County Public Health Laboratory provides tesing services for diagnosing and controlling the spread of communicable diseases. They include:
-Bacterial testing of water, salt water, milks,
food poisoning samples and enteric specimens.
-Sexually transmitted diseases testing of Chlamydia (amplified DNA test); GC (amplified DNA test); syphilis serology (VDRL and FTA)
-TB: Rapid
isolation and identification procedure using liquid and sold media. Rapid susceptibility tests.
-Mycology: fungus culture and identification
-Herpes virus culture and serotyping
-Rabies tests using the IFA procedure.
-Hepatitis C test using the ELISA procedure.
-HIV: ELISA test, Western Blot test, CD4- T cell count test, HIV Viral Load test.
-Shellfish test: for shellfish meats and growing waters
-Tick Borne Diseases tests: testing for the presence of Borrelia burgdorferi in ticks; testing for antibodies in patient's serum for Lyme
disease; for Babesia microti and Babesia WA-1; and for Ehrlichia chaffeensis (HME) and human granulocytic ehrlichiosis (HGE).
-Intestinal parasites: direct smear and concentrated stained smears
for the identification of intestinal parasites
