San Diego County Public Health Laboratory goes live with it's in-house Wastewater Surveillance testing and real time Dashboard
San Diego County Public Health Laboratory is excited to announce the launch of it's in-house Wastewater Surveillance program featuring a dynamic dashboard that provides real time trends and data on pathogens including SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19), Influenza A&B, and Respiratory Syncytial virus (RSV) using droplet digital PCR (ddPCR) on samples from the Point Loma Wastewater treatment Plant, South Bay Water reclamation Plant and Encina Wastewater Authority. Additional trends on pathogens such as Norovirus, Rotavirus EVD68, H5 influenza, Hepatitis A, Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), Measles, West Nile virus (WNV) and MPOX are also incorporated in the dashboard using WastewaterSCAN (WWSCAN) providing a comprehensive view of health trends in the community.
KPBS Health Reporter Heidi de Marco explains why tracking spread of COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses through wastewater testing matters and how early detection trends assist medical professionals to provide an effective response.
