APHL Annual Conference 2025
CAPHLD members had the valuable opportunity to participate in the APHL 2025 Annual Conference, held in Portland, OR, from May 5–8, 2025. This year’s conference was successfully led by the excellent leadership of APHL president Dr. Megan Crumpler (serving her last year as the APHL president, soon followed by President Elect – Dr. Scott Shone).
Several esteemed CAPHLD representatives delivered presentations on a wide range of topics, from strategies in responding to highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) to captivating discussions on unusual scientific phenomena.
At the conference, APHL recognized several California representatives for their contributions in advancing Public Health Science. Some of the award categories included:
Silver Award – This award honors a laboratorian with 10 to 15 years of service in a governmental public health laboratory. The honoree will be recognized as a leader both within their home laboratory as well as external to their laboratory.
Will Probert, research scientist supervisor, California Department of Public Health
Healthiest Laboratory Award – This award is given to an APHL member laboratory that is committed to safety, environmental process, environmental policy and employee health and wellness.
State jurisdictional award winner: California Department of Public Health Center for Laboratory Sciences
Local jurisdictional award winner: San Diego County Public Health Laboratory
