The Center for Laboratory Sciences is currently hiring for an Examiner III as the Blood and Tissue Banks, Biologics & Cytology Section Chief.

The Center for Laboratory Sciences (CLS) serves to protect and promote the health of all Californians through innovative and collaborative infectious disease and environmental testing, including provision of investigation and surveillance activities which form the basis of disease response and prevention. The CLS works to bring together emerging scientific capabilities in testing, analytics, and communications reflecting a new level of coordination, support, and leadership for the public health laboratory system at the state, local and national level. Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the Blood and Tissue Banks, Biologics & Cytology Section Chief, overseeing professional staff in the licensure and onsite surveys of blood and tissue bank and onsite inspections related to Transfusion Related Incidents and recalled blood and tissue products.

  • Provide surveillance of Cytology Services within Clinical Laboratories.

  • Coordinates staff activities with CDPH, other California departments and accrediting organizations to ensure that there is an adequate supply of disease-free blood and tissue.

  • Serves as liaison with the Blood Centers of California on scientific and technical problems relating to the regulation of blood banks operating in California.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Balance multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to work under pressure, execute sound judgement and exercise a high degree of confidentiality.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to work independently and/or collaboratively in a team environment.


Special Requirements:

*License: Clinical laboratory bio analyst or clinical laboratory scientist (general or specialized) or certification as a public health microbiologist issued by the California Department of Public Health*
